End to end spectacle sees Hoppers match ladder leaders to share points! Our Seniors secured a valuable point away from home against the ladder leaders, characterised by a strong tram effort throughout the evening. After a cagey opening period to the game, it was Hoppers who went ahead thanks to a Michael Formosa strike from outside the area. The game would remain 1-0 until half time, despite both teams exchanging goal scoring opportunities.Shortly after the break, Balmoral scored an equaliser but the even footing did not last long. A set piece finished off by Will Nuttall would see our lads reclaim the lead. With the game leaving their grasp, this shifted the home side's intensity leading to an equaliser and a go ahead goal. The urgency to chase the game shifted to our boys, who responded with an equaliser of their own through Kosta Paganis just before the end of the regular 90 minutes. The closing stages would see Hoppers unlucky not to score a winner after a couple of golden opportunities went begging. The Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to 6 games, recording a comprehensive 3-0 victory to jump ahead of Balmoral on the ladder. Hasan Ali scored our first after an excellent run was duly honoured to send him through one on one with the keeper for a calmly taken finish. The second came from a spot kick by Tristan Cabrera after Shane O'Loughlin was felled in the area. A long range curled effort into the top corner by Adirek Yawang rounded out a fine performance. Next game, we host fellow promotion contenders Sunbury United at Grange Reserve on Saturday 1 August for a 5pm kickoff (Reserves 3pm). This round we also honour our club's rich history with our Past Players Day event headlined by our pre match guard of honour, as well as our pitch roulette and crossbar challenge mini games. ... The spoils shared in an enthralling encounter! Our Seniors could only muster a draw in an even match which two goals apiece and momentum shifts throughout the night. Throughout the first half, both teams showed attacking intent creating good chances to go ahead. However, it was Craigieburn who would head into the half in the lead, converting with a near post flick from a free kick delivery. Our lads came out of the break with increased impetus, which was immediately rewarded with an exceptional half volley equaliser lashed into the top corner by Kasamu Kuradate. This lifted the intensity of the game with both teams continuing to produce chances. Another set piece by the visitors put Hoppers behind for the second time in the game, but this wouldn't be for long, as Michael Formosa hit the back of the net with a half volley of his own. Seizing this massive momentum shift, we pushed for a winner but were unable to go ahead despite creating further chances for the win.The Reserves continued their fine run of form, notching up another win to leapfrog Craigieburn on the ladder. Josh Verghese bagged a brace. The first came from an exceptional forward press to pinch the ball from the opposition defence and convert. Meanwhile, his second was a true thing of beauty, lobbing the opposition keeper from beyond halfway. Tristan Cabrera dispatched an excellent volley on his opposite foot into the net for our third. Finally, Oreno Luka beat the keeper to a through ball to round out the scoring.
