A share of the spoils away from home in wet conditions! In a well fought game, our Seniors ended up with an important point. Diamond Valley opened the scoring after a free kick deflected off our wall sending the keeper the wrong way. The Hoppers reply came a short time later after some abysmal defending led to a handball in the box. The resulting penalty was calmly tucked away by Ivan Silic. The scores level at half time. As the second half began, conditions got tougher with the ball getting bogged down in midfield. It took a brilliant solo effort by Aruna Mwinyi, slotting his shot into the bottom corner on his opposite foot after picking up the ball in midfield to break the deadlock. The home side pressed for an equaliser, which finally came after a long throw got through to the back post for a tap in. This made for a tense finish, as both teams had chances to snatch the win in the closing minutes. The Reserves finally saw reward for their positive play in recent matches, coming away with a 3-1 win in a well rounded display. Hasan Ali put the finishing touches on two 1v1 opportunities after being slipped through for the first and third goals. Lem Amo reacted well to the keeper's save to slam home the second. A home loss despite periods of dominance which lacked polish in front of goal! Our Reds dropped points at home for the first time this season in a tight and physical encounter. The majority of the first half was spent with both sides attempting to gain ascendancy in the midfield. Clean opportunities for goal few and far between for both sides bar a couple of half chances for Hoppers Crossing, with the half ending 0-0.The second half continued much the same way before a free kick was awarded to Dallas just outside the box midway through the half. This was taken with great aplomb putting the visitors ahead and give them the momentum in the immediate aftermath. Our boys fought hard to wrestle this back and push for an equaliser but ultimately fell short. The Reserves lost 3-2 with their good football not translating to deserved results. Josh Verghese bagging a brace thanks to two pieces of attentive pressing. The next weekend, the league pauses for a bye over the long weekend before we head away to Partingtons Flat to play Diamond Valley United SC in the final game of the first sequence of fixtures. ...
